JoAnn Ioannou joined the Johns Hopkins Health System in
August 2022 as vice president for strategic initiatives, leading
strategic projects and health system objectives. She is also an
associate faculty member at the Johns Hopkins University School
of Nursing. Ioannou collaborates with staff and senior leaders to
identify and prioritize strategic needs.
Previously, she served as executive vice president of hospital
operations and chief nursing officer at Greater Baltimore
Medical Center (GBMC), overseeing clinical, financial, and
operational activities. Her career with Johns Hopkins Medicine
began in 1993, progressing from a clinical nurse intern to
various leadership roles, including nurse clinician III, shift
coordinator, nurse manager, and assistant director of medical
nursing. From 2013 to 2015, she was the director of
neurosciences/psychiatry nursing.
Ioannou holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Towson
University and a bachelor's degree in nursing from Villa Julie
College (Stevenson University). She earned master’s degrees in
nursing and business administration and a doctorate in nursing
practice from The Johns Hopkins University.
