Before joining the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, Dr. Guilamo-Ramos was Dean of the
Duke University School of Nursing and Vice Chancellor for Nursing Affairs, where he
realigned the school’s mission and strategic plan to advance health equity and social justice.
Prior to his appointment at Duke, he held numerous tenured faculty and administrative
appointments at both Columbia University and New York University (NYU). At NYU, he
served as Associate Vice Provost of Mentoring and Outreach Programs, where he
developed a university-wide mentoring infrastructure for the advancement of early career
faculty with a focus on underrepresented faculty.
Dr. Guilamo-Ramos currently serves on several boards including UnidosUS, the nation’s
largest Latino civil rights organization. He previously co-chaired the HHS Presidential
Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS and served on the National Academies of Sciences,
Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Committee on Unequal Treatment Revisited: The
Current State of Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Healthcare. Dr. Guilamo-Ramos is a fellow
of both the American Academy of Nursing and the American Academy of Social Work and
Social Welfare, an Aspen Health Innovators Fellow, and a Presidential Leadership Scholar.
